PALO ALTO, Calif., March 10, 2026 - DataHub released the State of Context Management Report 2026, produced by independent firm TrendCandy. The data shows a sharp split between confidence and execution: most leaders say they're AI-ready, yet many delay projects because they don't trust their data. Two things stand out. First, context engineering is moving from a side project to a core discipline. Second, context management is now showing up as a defined pillar in enterprise AI strategies.

The Confidence - What Organizations Claimed

  • 88% have fully operational context platforms
  • 90% describe their data as AI-ready
  • 92% expect on-time delivery of AI initiatives

The Reality - What Organizations Experience

  • 66% frequently get biased or misleading AI insights
  • 87% cite data readiness as a significant impediment to AI in production
  • 61% frequently delay AI initiatives due to a lack of trusted data

The Correction - What Organizations Are Doing

  • 89% investing in context management infrastructure in the next 12 months
  • 91% building or buying context platform tools
  • 95% agree context engineering is important to power AI agents at scale

"The confidence gap in this data is striking," said Justin Ethington, founder of TrendCandy. "Organizations overwhelmingly call themselves AI-ready and self-assess at high levels of context management maturity, yet the majority are experiencing biased insights, missed project deadlines and data readiness blockers."

Calling yourself AI-ready doesn't make AI shippable. Mature context management does: unified metadata, lineage, quality signals, access controls, and policies that travel with data into agent workflows.

The takeaway: move from scattered proofs-of-concept to an enterprise capability. Treat context as a product, with owners, SLAs and investment.

  • Assign an executive owner for context management. Form a cross-functional council across data, security, risk, and AI product.

  • Foundations: metadata/catalog, lineage, data quality, access and policy automation, and AI observability.
  • Enablement: reusable RAG/context services, evaluation harnesses, bias and safety testing.
  • Delivery: fund 3-5 high-impact AI use cases that prove the platform, not one-off pipelines.

Risks to address early

  • Shadow context stores and duplicate truths across teams
  • Vendor lock-in without clear data exit and policy portability
  • Endless pilots with no path to shared platform capabilities
  • Compliance gaps on sensitive data flowing into prompts and embeddings
