AI Startup Harvey Hits $100 Million in Annual Recurring Revenue
Harvey, an AI startup focused on legal technology, has reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) just three years after launching. The company offers an AI-powered platform that assists lawyers at law firms and large corporations with tasks such as legal research, drafting, and diligence projects. Harvey is also developing use cases tailored to specific industries.
Growth Driven by Usage and Expanding Customer Base
Co-founder and CEO Winston Weinberg attributes Harvey’s ARR milestone mainly to increased usage. The company has surpassed 500 customers, including Comcast, the parent company of CNBC. Over the past year, the startup’s weekly average users have quadrupled.
“Most of our accounts grow pretty massively,” said Weinberg. “You’ll sell to a Comcast or to a law firm, and they’ll buy a couple hundred seats, and then they expand that usage pretty quickly.”
Founders with Legal and AI Expertise
Winston Weinberg, a former lawyer, co-founded Harvey with Gabe Pereyra, a former research scientist at Google DeepMind and Meta. They started the company in 2022 after experimenting with OpenAI’s GPT-3 model, predating the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT.
The name “Harvey” was inspired partly by a character from the legal drama TV series Suits, reflecting the company’s focus on the legal sector.
Funding and Recognition
Harvey has raised over $800 million from investors including Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, and the OpenAI Startup Fund. The company was also named to the 2025 CNBC Disruptor 50 list.
Scaling and Leadership
Weinberg emphasizes the importance of rapid scaling in the AI space. “With gen AI, and how fast everything’s moving, you just have to learn how to scale really, really fast,” he said. “Like every six months I go through a new scaling experience.”
Recent hires include Siva Gurumurthy, former director of engineering at Twitter, as CTO, and John Haddock, with a decade of experience at Stripe, as chief business officer.
Weinberg highlights the value of strong leadership during growth phases: “We’re starting to get to the point where we have really good leadership in place. That just changes your ability to scale to such a massive degree.”
Looking Ahead
Harvey plans to focus on global expansion and further team development in the coming months. Their AI platform continues to evolve, aiming to support lawyers with practical tools that improve efficiency in legal workflows.
