Jakarta's Sekolah Rakyat Program Uses AI for Student Talent Mapping
The Sekolah Rakyat program in Indonesia is adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and develop student potential effectively. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, highlighted the use of AI-based talent mapping during a session at Sekolah Rakyat Junior High School 10 in Bogor, West Java.
"This talent mapping allows us to learn each child’s potential and opportunities," Iskandar explained. After reviewing the school's facilities, he confirmed that the school is fully equipped and ready for educational activities.
Comprehensive Facilities Support Learning
The Ministry of Social Affairs has provided essential infrastructure including dormitories, beds, rooms, a health center, student council facilities, a laboratory, a library, and classrooms. An important feature is the availability of computerized educational modules, which support modern learning methods.
AI Accelerates Talent Identification
Mohammad Nuh, head of the Sekolah Rakyat formation team, explained that AI accelerates the talent mapping process by identifying students’ talents and potential in under 10 minutes. The program conducts three types of mapping:
- Physical mapping, including health assessments
- Psychosocial mapping
- Academic mapping
These results serve as a baseline to monitor and measure students’ progress throughout their education.
Focus on Character and Life Skills
Sekolah Rakyat emphasizes character education alongside life skills development. Students receive training in leadership, religious values, and digital skills necessary for the AI era. This approach aims to equip students with a broad set of competencies.
Free, Inclusive Education for Underprivileged Children
Initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, the program targets children from poor and extremely poor families identified in the National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN) system, specifically Deciles 1 and 2. Sekolah Rakyat breaks the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing free education from elementary through high school.
The boarding school model includes formal classes during the day and character education in the evenings. Digital learning modules and a learning management system extend access to quality education, especially for children in remote areas.
