AI Tools Urged as Key to Boosting Content Quality and Creator Engagement

Creators Encouraged to Embrace AI Tools for Better Content and Engagement

The recent International Creator Day at the University of Nairobi brought together writers, vloggers, musicians, photographers, and designers to discuss the future of content creation. The event emphasized the need for creators to adopt digital tools, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), to produce content that resonates and drives meaningful engagement.

Experts at the conference highlighted how social media has changed drastically with digital advancements. They urged creators to use AI and Machine Learning to enhance their work, improve monetisation opportunities, and stay competitive. Far from threatening jobs, AI is a tool that, when combined with human creativity, can improve content quality and audience value.

Keeping Skills Current with AI

Tabbz Maina, Head of Marketing at Microsoft Africa Development Centre, stressed the importance of continuous learning. She encouraged creators to stay updated on AI tools that can help generate timely and cost-effective content tailored to audience needs. Microsoft plans to train over a million Kenyans in AI skills, preparing a new generation ready to tap into digital opportunities.

“Those who do not enhance their skills and adopt emerging tools risk falling behind. Investing in AI can make work more efficient and affordable,” Maina said during the event.

New Monetisation Models for Creators

Meta’s Global Partnerships Manager for sub-Saharan Africa, Rofhiwa Maneta, announced updates to Meta’s monetisation programme. The revamped system rewards creators based on content authenticity and engagement across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, rather than just video length or livestream ads.

“The new programme pays creators according to how their content performs through views and shares,” Maneta explained. This approach aims to include all types of creatives—whether they produce photos, stories, or text—ensuring everyone can benefit from their passion and quality work.

Connecting Creators with Technology and Brands

The event was supported by tech leaders including Safaricom, which served as the gold sponsor. Teki CEO Martin Muli described International Creator Day as an opportunity for creators to connect with tech experts and brands, learn about new tools, and explore industry trends. This year’s focus on creator tech tools underlined the importance of adapting to AI-driven methods for content creation and monetisation.

Apart from the conference, the event featured an exhibition showcasing the latest production gear and digital platforms that simplify content creation and distribution.

Safaricom’s Director of Brand and Marketing, Zizwe Awuor Vundla, highlighted creativity’s role in shaping culture and public opinion. “This day reminds us how important creators are to society and encourages continued innovation in content,” Vundla said.
