Airtel Launches AI Scam Detection to Protect Users from Malicious Websites Across All Platforms

AI-Powered Website Scam Detection Now Active Across Airtel Networks

Airtel has launched a new AI-based solution to detect and block malicious websites in real time across all communication platforms. This service covers OTT apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, as well as emails, browsers, SMS, and more. It is automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers at no extra cost.

When a user attempts to visit a flagged malicious website, Airtel’s system blocks the page from loading and redirects the user to an explanation page. This multi-layered AI platform scans data traffic continuously, identifying and filtering dangerous links using AI algorithms combined with global security databases and Airtel’s own threat intelligence.

How the Scam Detection Platform Works

  • Real-time monitoring of internet traffic across devices and platforms
  • Domain filtering to block suspicious or harmful URLs
  • Integration with OTT apps, email clients, browsers, and SMS services
  • Automatic protection without requiring downloads or user activation

This approach ensures that customers receive seamless protection without any additional steps. The AI system has undergone six months of internal testing, demonstrating strong accuracy in recognizing and blocking scam sites.

Why This Matters

Cyber scams targeting everyday users have been increasing steadily. Airtel’s new platform aims to reduce the risk of fraud by proactively preventing access to harmful sites. This service provides users with a safer browsing experience and greater peace of mind.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, commented on the launch: “We have encountered many cases where customers were defrauded by criminals exploiting the internet. Our Fraud Detection Solution scans internet traffic, checks with global repositories and our proprietary threat database in real time, and blocks fraudulent websites. After six months of trials, we have achieved remarkable accuracy and will continue improving to make our networks free from spam and scams.”

This initiative marks one of the first comprehensive fraud detection platforms offering broad coverage across multiple communication channels and devices.
