Akido Secures $60M to Expand AI Platform for Underserved Healthcare
Akido Labs Inc., a health technology company focused on improving care delivery through artificial intelligence, has raised $60 million in new funding. The investment will accelerate the expansion of ScopeAI, an AI-driven platform designed to increase clinical capacity and enhance healthcare access, especially in vulnerable and underserved communities.
Founded in 2015, Akido combines AI-powered software with a network of multispecialty clinics to deliver efficient, whole-person care at scale. The company’s technology supports healthcare providers by reducing administrative tasks and enabling them to serve more patients without sacrificing quality.
How ScopeAI Supports Healthcare Providers
At the center of Akido’s offering is ScopeAI, an AI clinical co-pilot that assists medical assistants and physicians during patient visits. The system dynamically generates relevant clinical questions, records patient responses in real time, and drafts essential documentation such as notes, diagnoses, and care plans.
ScopeAI operates using reinforcement learning, meaning it improves over time by learning from feedback and adjusting its behavior. This ongoing training helps the model adapt to clinical nuances, supporting faster and safer decision-making across diverse patient populations.
By automating much of the intake and documentation process, ScopeAI enables providers to increase patient throughput. It also facilitates care delivery in high-demand environments like street medicine programs and public clinics, where resources are often limited.
Addressing the Physician Shortage
Akido’s co-founder and CEO, Prashant Samant, highlights the urgent need to tackle the global physician shortage. “With demand for care far exceeding supply, AI is the key to addressing the doctor deficit,” he said. “Our platform empowers healthcare providers and ensures patients receive timely, high-quality care regardless of financial means or geography.”
Funding and Support
The latest Series B funding round was led by Oak HC/FT Partners LP, with participation from Greco Risk Partners, SNR Denton Group Ltd., and existing investors including Y Combinator, Future Communities Capital, Jeff Dean from Google DeepMind and Google Research, and the Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center Inc.
Andrew Adams, co-founder and managing partner at Oak HC/FT, noted, “Akido is changing how patients experience visits with their providers through AI. Their extensive longitudinal dataset allows for clinical accuracy that many other models have yet to achieve.”
