Amazon Launches Health AI Assistant for U.S. Users

Amazon has released Health AI, an AI-powered assistant available on its website and mobile app that helps users manage prescriptions, schedule appointments, and interpret medical information. The tool currently operates only in the United States.

The assistant answers health questions and clarifies medical records with user consent. It can connect patients with licensed providers through One Medical for messaging, video calls, or in-person visits. Health AI can also submit prescription renewal requests to One Medical providers, allowing users to fill medications through Amazon Pharmacy or other pharmacies.

Users can share medical data through the Health Information Exchange to receive more tailored responses, including analysis of medical history and lab results. Amazon may also reference relevant purchases customers have made on its platform to inform its guidance.

How It Works in Practice

The tool launched earlier this year for One Medical app users. Amazon is now expanding availability on Amazon.com and its mobile app, with broader rollout expected soon. Customers can sign up on the Amazon Health page and will receive email notifications when access becomes available.

Amazon emphasizes that Health AI assists healthcare providers rather than replacing them. The company positions it as a tool to help users understand health information and prepare for conversations with medical professionals, not to provide diagnoses or treatment recommendations.

Market Expansion Reflects Broader Trend

The virtual medical assistants market reached $1.92 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow to $11.69 billion by 2035, expanding at an annual rate of 19.80%. The growth reflects increasing demand for administrative automation, advanced patient monitoring, and solutions to address healthcare worker burnout.

Amazon's move follows similar offerings from competitors. OpenAI's ChatGPT Health similarly connects medical records for personalized health inquiries.

For healthcare professionals, these tools represent a shift in how patients access medical information and manage their care between appointments. Understanding how AI for Healthcare systems operate can help clinicians prepare for increased patient familiarity with AI-assisted health navigation.
