Ambience Healthcare Raises $243 Million in Series C Funding
Ambience Healthcare has secured $243 million in a Series C funding round, led by Oak HC/FT and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). This follows a $70 million Series B raise just a year ago. Existing investors such as the OpenAI Startup Fund, Kleiner Perkins, and Optum Ventures also participated. New backers include Town Hall Ventures, Frist Cressey Ventures, Smash Capital, Founders Circle Capital, and Georgian.
What Ambience Healthcare Does
Ambience Healthcare provides an ambient AI platform that integrates with electronic health records (EHR) to automate clinical documentation, coding, and workflow tasks. Using proprietary AI reasoning models, the platform addresses regulatory, operational, and clinical requirements within healthcare settings.
Its ambient listening technology captures conversations during patient encounters to generate documentation and chart summaries automatically. For clinicians, this reduces manual charting time. For administrators, the platform produces documentation for clinical documentation improvement (CDI), ICD-10 coding, prior authorizations, and utilization management. It also generates after-visit summaries for patients.
The new funding will support scaling the platform across more health systems nationwide.
Investor Perspective
Julie Yoo, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, highlighted that Ambience began as an ambient AI product but has expanded into a comprehensive platform addressing multiple clinical workflows. She noted the team’s focus on meeting real clinical needs, earning trust from frontline providers, and delivering measurable value to health systems.
Market Presence and Partnerships
Following their Series B funding last year, Ambience partnered with Midi Health, a women’s virtual care provider, to integrate their AI system with Athenahealth’s EHR. This partnership helped Midi expand its clinician base and broaden its care offerings in menopause, weight management, and survivorship support.
Ambience has also established collaborations with major healthcare organizations including John Muir Health, Cleveland Clinic, Houston Methodist, and Onvida Health. Earlier this year, the company made its AI platform available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, increasing accessibility for health systems.
Looking Ahead
With this significant capital infusion, Ambience Healthcare aims to extend its AI-driven documentation and workflow solutions across the healthcare industry, helping providers reduce administrative burdens and improve clinical efficiency.
