Ambience Healthcare Raises $243M to Boost AI Clinical Documentation
Ambience Healthcare recently closed a $243 million Series C funding round aimed at expanding its AI-powered clinical documentation and coding platform across health systems.
Backers and Investment Details
The round was co-led by Oak HC/FT and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from existing investors including the OpenAI Startup Fund and Optum Ventures. New investors such as Frist Cressey Ventures, Town Hall Ventures, Smash Capital, Georgian, and Founders Circle Capital also joined.
Platform Capabilities and Benefits
Ambience Healthcare’s platform uses proprietary AI reasoning models that support clinical documentation, coding, and workflow management. It employs ambient listening technology to automate documentation tasks, generating specialty-specific chart summaries for clinicians in real time.
The system offers suggestions for Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs), Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels, as well as ICD-10 and CPT codes. This helps reduce the administrative burden on providers and streamlines workflows directly within health system electronic health records (EHRs).
Addressing Clinical Documentation Challenges
Clinical documentation remains a significant pain point in healthcare, contributing to provider burnout and inefficiency. According to data from 2024, 43.5% of clinicians using ambient AI documentation tools reported spending less time on documentation after patient visits.
Ambience Healthcare’s platform supports over 100 specialties, including oncology, psychiatry, and emergency medicine. It adapts to different clinical priorities and workflows, aiming to personalize the provider experience while easing coding and documentation burdens.
Industry Adoption and Feedback
Major health systems such as Cleveland Clinic, UCSF Health, and Houston Methodist currently use Ambience Healthcare’s platform. A 2025 KLAS report highlights customer satisfaction with the platform’s integration into EHRs and responsiveness to client feedback. Some users, however, have expressed interest in deeper system integration.
Investor Perspective
Julie Yoo, general partner at a16z, noted the company’s impressive execution in transforming an ambient AI product into a comprehensive clinical workflow platform. She emphasized the platform’s focus on real clinical needs, subspecialty customization, and value delivery to health systems.
Looking Ahead
With the new funding, Ambience Healthcare plans to broaden its AI platform’s reach across more health systems and accelerate product development to better support clinicians.
