Apple Hires Google Executive to Lead AI Marketing Push
Apple hired Lilian Rincon, a former Google vice president, as its new VP of product marketing for artificial intelligence. Rincon will report to Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
Rincon spent nearly a decade at Google, most recently leading product for Google Shopping. She also contributed to Google Assistant and previously worked at Microsoft and Skype.
At Apple, Rincon will oversee product marketing and product management for Apple Intelligence and Siri. The hire comes as Apple prepares to release a rebuilt Siri in 2026-a chatbot-style assistant powered by Google's Gemini AI model.
Addressing the AI Gap
Apple has faced criticism for lagging behind competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft in generative AI. The company delayed several Apple Intelligence features and entered a multi-year partnership with Google to power advanced AI capabilities.
The new Siri will handle complex tasks including document scanning, information summarization, and multi-step actions. It will be more conversational and context-aware than the current version.
Rincon's background in marketing consumer AI products positions her to communicate Apple's AI strategy against established competitors. Her experience managing Google Shopping and Google Assistant gives her direct knowledge of bringing AI to consumers at scale.
Building the AI Team
This hire follows Apple's appointment of Amar Subramanya as VP of AI. Subramanya, formerly at Microsoft and Google, oversees AI research, models, and safety.
The dual hire signals Apple's effort to strengthen both the underlying technology and the marketing of its AI initiatives. The redesigned Siri is expected to debut in iOS 27, along with corresponding updates to macOS and iPadOS.
Apple has not disclosed Rincon's start date or specific priorities. The company continues to emphasize privacy and on-device processing, while relying on the Google partnership for advanced model capabilities.
For product development professionals, understanding AI for Product Development and AI for Marketing has become essential as companies position AI features in competitive markets.
