Armenia commits $25 million to AI computing infrastructure
The Armenian government will purchase $25 million in computing resources from Firebird AI over five years to support artificial intelligence development, announced Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan.
Firebird AI is building a large-scale data center in Hrazdan. The computing power will be distributed through the Artificial Intelligence Virtual Institute (AIVI), a platform launched by the ministry.
Who gets access
Startups, research groups, educational institutions, and individual specialists working in AI will have access to the resources. They can use the computing power to design, train, and deploy AI systems.
How the program operates
AIVI will handle applications, vet applicants, and allocate computing resources. The platform also functions as a virtual space for AI developers to communicate and collaborate.
The program targets a broad base of AI workers across sectors. Government officials see computing access as a bottleneck for smaller organizations and researchers who lack the capital to build their own infrastructure.
For government professionals overseeing technology policy or digital transformation, this represents a direct investment in domestic AI capacity. Armenia is positioning itself to develop local expertise rather than rely entirely on external vendors.
