Asset Panda Releases AI Tool for Government Asset Management

Asset Panda, a Dallas-based software company, launched Ursa, an AI-powered platform designed to help state and local governments track and manage infrastructure, equipment, and public safety assets. The tool integrates directly into Asset Panda Pro, the company's existing asset management system.

The product targets a specific workflow problem. A field worker photographs equipment and requests an inspection. Ursa analyzes the image, generates findings, and stores results in the asset records automatically. Department leaders can use natural language searches to check asset availability, maintenance status, or depreciation without needing spreadsheets or deep software skills.

Justin Lackey, president of Asset Panda, said the tool is not a chatbot but "a real AI layer that understands the work itself." He emphasized it was built for users without technical expertise.

A Staged Approach to AI Adoption

Lackey framed Ursa as an entry point for governments hesitant about AI. Agencies can deploy it to a single department first, then expand use across other units based on results.

"They can bring in one department and one tenant at a time," he said. "Asset Panda can be that first foot in the water."

The approach addresses a practical gap. Many public agencies manage thousands of assets across multiple departments but lack streamlined systems for tracking maintenance, depreciation, and availability. Manual spreadsheet-based processes consume staff time and create bottlenecks for decision-makers.

Broader Market Movement

Asset Panda's move reflects wider competition among government technology vendors. Other companies are expanding their own asset management capabilities, signaling growing demand from public sector buyers for AI-assisted tools in this space.

For managers overseeing asset operations, tools like Ursa represent a practical use case for AI Agents & Automation - replacing routine manual work with systems that handle image analysis, data entry, and report generation.
