Lloyd's Insurer Deploys AI to Speed Up Claims Processing
Atrium, a specialist insurer at Lloyd's of London, has launched BrokerBrief, an AI tool built by insurtech firm Sofix that automatically summarizes claims documents and attaches them to claim files. The system processes early-stage notifications and related paperwork into structured summaries that claims handlers and adjusters can review without sorting through multiple emails or fragmented records.
The tool converts unstructured broker submissions into standardized outputs that combine key claim details, validation checks, and coverage considerations. As new documents arrive, BrokerBrief updates the summary automatically, keeping claim records current throughout the process.
How It Works for Operations Teams
Claims handlers and adjusters typically spend time piecing together claim information from scattered sources. BrokerBrief eliminates that step by presenting a single, continuously refreshed view of each claim from the file's start.
The system also feeds data into analytics and decision-support tools, helping claims teams move faster through initial assessment and maintain consistency across decisions. By centralizing claim information, operations teams can spot patterns across multiple files and align more easily with Lloyd's market requirements.
The platform integrates with Sofix's existing connection to the Insurers' Market Repository (IMR), which allows insurers to extract and analyze large volumes of claims data. It converts unstructured content-loss adjuster reports, broker communications, expert evidence-into usable insights.
Why This Matters
Claims handling is where insurance meets reality. Speed and accuracy in processing directly affect how quickly customers recover from losses. By automating the summarization step, Atrium reduces the manual work required before claims assessment can begin.
Carla Viana, Chief Data Scientist at Sofix, said: "BrokerBrief turns unstructured claims information into a structured, continuously refreshed view of the claim, helping handlers and adjusters act faster and make better-informed decisions."
Andrew Johnson, Delegated Authority Oversight and Ops Support Leader at Atrium, said: "Claims are the moment of truth. Our focus has always been on delivering a fast claims experience, and this tool elevates that further by driving real efficiencies for our brokers and clients."
