Augmented UW names Luke Overall head of underwriting
Augmented UW has appointed Luke Overall as head of underwriting, effective 17 November 2025. The AI-enhanced MGA launched in July 2025 with an initial focus on property and terrorism and plans to add further lines in 2026.
Role and remit
- Lead the underwriting team and set portfolio discipline.
- Work with brokers and carriers to build data-led portfolios that align capacity with risk.
- Define the MGA's technology-enabled underwriting approach.
- Support digital infrastructure that lets brokers create smart-follow panels.
Market focus and growth
The near-term priority is profitable growth in property and terrorism, with new lines slated for 2026. For terrorism, market context and backstops matter; see Pool Re for the UK framework.
Why it matters for brokers and carriers
Augmented UW is building workflows where underwriting judgment and data science sit side by side. For brokers, that can mean clearer appetite signals, faster placements, and smarter use of follow capacity via rules-based panels. For carriers, the focus is cleaner data, tighter exposure control, and portfolio views that support consistent, repeatable decisions.
Experience
Overall brings 15+ years across MGA and carrier environments. His background spans property, terrorism, cyber, and liability, with a track record in binder-driven portfolios and strategic underwriting partnerships.
Leadership perspectives
Chief executive Daniel Prince said Overall combines technical underwriting depth, multi-class experience, and strong market instincts-well suited to leading the firm's underwriting direction and delivering value as the MGA scales and its digital stack matures.
Overall added that underwriters sit alongside AI and technology in this model. His focus is helping brokers and carriers connect more effectively, remove operational pinch points, and build scalable, data-driven programmes that deliver measurable results in the London market.
What to watch in 2026
Expect controlled expansion into additional lines, continued build-out of smart-follow capabilities, and tighter integration between underwriting rules, portfolio analytics, and placement tools.
