Australian Company Archistar Accelerates LA Wildfire Rebuild Using AI
Sydney-based property technology firm Archistar has launched its eCheck platform in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, LA County, and the City of Malibu. This AI-driven solution aims to speed up rebuilding efforts after California's severe wildfires, marking a significant step in disaster recovery.
Following a strategic collaboration with the International Code Council (ICC), eCheck is now recognized as a trusted global tool for modernizing building approvals.
Accelerating Rebuilding Efforts in Los Angeles
The partnership, announced by Governor Gavin Newsom, introduces AI at scale for the first time in California’s disaster recovery process. Governor Newsom highlighted that traditional permit issuance was too slow for the scale of rebuilding needed. By teaming up with tech companies and community leaders, California is providing local governments with tools to rebuild faster and more efficiently.
How eCheck Supports Faster and More Accurate Permitting
Thousands of homes were damaged or lost in the wildfires. The eCheck platform helps homeowners, builders, and architects pre-validate building plans against local codes before submission. This reduces errors and incomplete applications, leading to faster approvals.
Using generative AI, computer vision, and machine learning, the system automates compliance checks that previously required manual review. This automation cuts down on delays and improves accuracy, allowing local governments to approve permits with greater confidence and speed.
Dr. Benjamin Coorey, Archistar’s Founder and CEO, said, “eCheck helps cut through red tape and gets families rebuilding faster — when they need it most.”
Global Reach and Partnerships
The cities of Los Angeles, Malibu, and LA County join a network of over 30 municipalities worldwide using Archistar’s AI solutions for building approvals. Other users include Vancouver, Austin, New York, and government departments in Colorado and British Columbia.
Archistar’s partnership with the International Code Council integrates eCheck with ICC's Code Connect API®, enabling automated compliance checks that are faster and more consistent. A pilot with 11 U.S. jurisdictions confirmed the platform’s effectiveness, strengthening Archistar’s position in digital permitting.
This technology supports transparent approval systems that benefit residents, planners, and city staff, while also addressing housing supply and resilience challenges.
Built in Australia, Deployed Globally
Headquartered in Sydney, Archistar specializes in AI-driven planning and compliance software. Their eCheck platform is trusted by city governments and property professionals worldwide to simplify complex codes and speed up approvals.
The LA launch was made possible through collaboration with Autodesk, Amazon, Steadfast LA, and the LA Rises initiative, demonstrating how public and private sectors can work together to deliver tangible results.
For those in real estate and construction looking to understand the impact of AI on property development and approvals, platforms like Archistar’s eCheck highlight how technology can reduce delays and streamline processes.
