Sustainable Development Ministry Advances AI for Public Sector Sustainability in Bahrain

The Ministry of Sustainable Development in Bahrain recently organized a workshop in partnership with Bain & Company and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to examine practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for sustainability within government operations.

This workshop is part of the Leaders of Sustainable MENA (LSM) Community initiative by Bain and WEF, which focuses on identifying AI use cases that can significantly drive sustainability across various industries. The session marks the initial phase in creating an AI prototype aimed at boosting Bahrain’s sustainability efforts across sectors. Findings and insights from this collaboration will be compiled into a research report scheduled for early 2026, to be shared on international stages.

Exploring AI’s Role in Sustainable Public Services

Bain & Company experts delivered an overview of existing AI applications in the public sector, highlighting successful projects within the MENA region that have delivered measurable benefits. They stressed AI’s growing role in addressing key sustainability challenges and the importance of governments staying updated on global AI developments. Strengthening national AI capabilities was emphasized as essential for preparing future generations with adaptable skills suited to an evolving digital environment.

Collaborative Focus on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

The workshop brought together 30 senior representatives from over 15 government bodies. Participants engaged in interactive sessions addressing real-world challenges and opportunities to implement AI solutions that support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Discussions centered on practical strategies to develop AI prototypes tailored to Bahrain’s national priorities and sustainability agenda.

Attendees praised the government’s approach to integrating AI systematically across public services. This alignment of initiatives and investments aims to enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and provide tangible benefits for citizens and residents. The efforts also position Bahrain as a regional hub for innovation in sustainability.
