Bando E&C takes top honors in construction at the 2025 Risk Assessment Best Practices
Bando E&C won the grand prize in the construction sector at the 2025 Risk Assessment Best Practices presentation, hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency. The event took place on November 25 at 1 p.m., at the Pass & Park Convention inside the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan, Seoul.
The competition recognized 16 finalists and created a forum to share safety improvements proven on live worksites. This year's entries leaned into practical measures that teams can implement without delay.
What set Bando E&C apart
- Ad-hoc, on-site risk assessments that feed directly into corrective actions led by site managers.
- Real-time communication with multinational crews via an AI automatic translation system deployed at the Kive UBora site (Goyang Janghang District M-1). Workers can review risk assessment details as they happen, reducing miscommunication during briefings and hazard controls.
- Twice-yearly safety and health system-building training for CEOs and executives at partner firms, plus an internal best-practice contest to surface what works.
- Tracking toward ZERO serious accidents for the seventh straight year.
Event snapshot
- 16 companies recognized for advancing to the finals and presenting proven methods.
- 259 construction sites participated in the preliminary review.
- Key themes: continuous assessments, multilingual communication, and prevention starting in the design phase.
Practical takeaways for developers, GCs, and subs
- Make risk assessment continuous, not a one-time document. Short, frequent checks catch drift on fast-moving sites.
- Equip supervisors with multilingual tools so critical instructions land the first time. Aim for real-time clarity during toolbox talks and permits.
- Push prevention upstream. Involve safety in early design reviews to remove hazards before they reach the bid or field.
- Train leadership, not just crews. Twice-yearly executive sessions help align budgets, schedules, and safety accountability.
- Run an internal "best practice" challenge. Reward site teams that reduce exposure and share what's repeatable.
- Track a small set of outcome metrics (e.g., serious accidents, high-potential near misses) and publicly report progress.
Leadership note
"We will continue to lead safety management in the construction industry by establishing smart safety management using advanced technology and a voluntary, advanced safety culture," said Lee Jeong-ryeol, head of construction at Bando E&C.
