Vietnam's Finance Education Network Ramps Up AI Skills With Nationwide Programme
Vantage Foundation, the Banking Academy of Vietnam (BAV) and more than 10 universities have launched a nationwide programme to level up AI-driven financial data analysis and decision-making. Over 1,500 educators and students took part, with interest from more than 3,000 students across the country. The sessions ran on 12 and 14 March at BAV's Hanoi campus with nationwide virtual participation.
The focus was simple: turn AI from a buzzword into a set of skills finance teams can apply to analysis, risk, and execution. The programme covered analytics, predictive modelling and financial data visualisation that financial institutions are already using in production.
Who's Involved and Why It Matters
Co-organisers included the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), National Economics University (NEU), Vietnam National University - Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi), Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) and Foreign Trade University (FTU). These schools feed talent into banks, brokerages and financial services firms nationwide.
Held at BAV's Hanoi campus, the programme focused on how AI helps teams read markets faster, separate signal from noise, and turn data into decisions under time pressure. For finance leaders, this is about speed, accuracy, and risk awareness in a market that doesn't wait.
Training-of-Trainers: Building Faculty Capacity at Scale
A core piece was a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) track for lecturers. Over 250 professors joined in person and online, including a delegation from Can Tho University who travelled more than 1,500 kilometres to attend.
The goal: equip educators with frameworks and practical skills so the same AI capabilities reach classrooms across Vietnam. That multiplier effect matters for banks that depend on job-ready graduates.
Industry Sessions: From Data Providers to Trading Systems
Ms. Truong Thi Minh Trang, M.Sc., Managing Director of Financial Information Services at FiinGroup, led a session on financial data analytics. FiinGroup counts Nikkei Inc. and QUICK Corp as strategic shareholders, and its credit-rating arm FiinRatings has S&P Global as a strategic investor. Participants saw how institutional data infrastructure and analytics workflows come together in practice.
Dr. Vu Xuan Tung, AI Solution Architect at Goline Financial Technology JSC, ran a live demo of AI-enabled trading software used by brokerage firms. The session highlighted how AI is already embedded in modern securities trading systems, from signal generation to execution support.
What BAV Expects From Future Finance Talent
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Deputy Director of BAV, put it plainly: "Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept; it is already changing the structure of the global financial industry." He added that finance professionals must read complex datasets and respond in real time.
"In today's digital economy, data is the new fuel. Without the skills to collect, analyse and interpret data effectively, professionals may struggle to keep pace with the industry's development." He emphasised the need to blend technical data expertise with risk awareness and sound decision-making.
Global Collaboration and Responsible Adoption
BAV noted that its collaboration with Vantage Foundation supports Vietnam's National Digital Transformation Strategy and strengthens international knowledge exchange. The aim is to ground students in both academic theory and practical, global industry perspectives.
Speaking at the student session, Mr. Adam Siew, Vice President of Business Development representing Vantage Foundation, said: "Artificial intelligence is transforming how financial institutions interpret data, understand markets and make decisions. Processes that once required weeks of analysis can now be completed in seconds." He stressed that technology must be guided by human judgment: "Data becomes meaningful only when guided by human insight, responsibility and sound judgment."
What This Means for Your Team
- Audit your data stack: identify the 2-3 highest-friction analysis tasks (e.g., reconciliations, sector screens, event-driven notes) and test AI-assisted workflows to cut turnaround times.
- Prioritise model governance: pair any predictive model with clear validation, drift monitoring and scenario testing. Speed helps only if controls are tight.
- Upskill on visualisation and storytelling: better plots and cleaner narratives move decisions faster across risk, compliance and investment committees.
- Bring front-office and risk together: align use cases where AI can support both alpha generation and exposure control, with shared metrics and review gates.

Programme Close and Next Steps
The programme concluded with a certificate ceremony led by Mr. Floyd Wong, Head of Vietnam representing Vantage Foundation, alongside BAV representatives. With AI moving deeper into financial systems, partnerships between universities and fintech-linked organisations are set to play a bigger role in preparing the next wave of finance professionals.
