Beijing hosts nine-day AI-in-education summit with 500+ officials and industry leaders
A nine-day event focused on integrating artificial intelligence into education began Saturday in Beijing. Hosted by the Haidian district government, the gathering brought together over 500 officials, scholars, and industry leaders to build a collaborative platform for the education technology sector.
Zhang Mi, director of the Institute of International Technology and Economy under the Development Research Center of the State Council, said global strategic priorities have shifted from AI research and development to talent cultivation.
"Competition in artificial intelligence, at its core, is competition for talent," Zhang said. "Empowering education with AI is a strategic issue that will determine whether China can take the lead in the next round of global competition."
Zhang called on the education and technology communities to push forward "AI+ education" application scenarios and deepen collaboration between official bodies. He emphasized developing China's international influence in AI applications.
What this means for educators
Schools and universities integrating AI tools need guidance on implementation. Educators looking to understand how AI fits into their work can explore AI for Education resources or pursue structured training through an AI Learning Path for Teachers.
The event reflects a broader recognition that education institutions must move beyond viewing AI as a future concern and begin practical deployment now.
