Bernama’s AI Course Boosts Media Skills from Basic to Advanced

Media practitioners gathered in Johor Bahru for a two-day intensive course on AI-powered content creation and editorial automation, hosted by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). The program brought together 30 participants, including part-time journalists, from various media organisations.

The course focused on practical applications of artificial intelligence in producing generative video content and scriptwriting. Participants learned to integrate AI tools such as text-to-image generation, AI voice synthesis, and video editing involving scripts, voice-overs, animations, and subtitles.

Hands-On Learning Builds Confidence

One participant, a Bernama reporter aged 28, shared his excitement about mastering AI-based video production. He had previously thought such skills were limited to experienced professionals but now feels confident creating his own content using AI tools.

Similarly, a reporter from The Star highlighted the course as a valuable opportunity to enhance AI editing skills in a structured and professional way. She emphasized the necessity of AI technology for media practitioners aiming to stay competitive and relevant.

Technology Keeps Experience Relevant

A veteran photographer with over 30 years of experience, currently working part-time, stressed the importance of staying updated with technological advances. He views continuous learning as essential to maintain the quality and relevance of his work.

Interactive Format and Expert Guidance

The course combined theoretical knowledge with practical sessions. It concluded with group presentations where participants showcased their newly developed skills through creative video projects.

Two AI experts from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Associate Professors Dr Azwa Abdul Aziz and Dr Normala Rahim, facilitated the sessions. Each participant received a certificate presented by Ridzuan Mohd Ghazali, manager of Bernama’s Centre of Excellence.

Expanding AI Skills Across Malaysia

Johor marked the seventh location for this course, following stops in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu, and Kedah. This initiative is part of Bernama’s ongoing effort to digitalise editorial operations and support media practitioners nationwide.
