Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to Launch AI-Based Education Project Benefiting One Crore Students

The Bihar government is set to introduce a major initiative that will bring artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills education to over one crore students from classes 6 to 12. This ambitious plan, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is backed by the state's Education Department, which has finalized preparations and is moving toward an agreement with Adobe’s Digital Education Program.

Aligning with the New Education Policy 2020

This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP), which emphasizes preparing students for the technical demands of the future beyond traditional textbook learning. Starting as a pilot project in the 2025-26 academic year, the program aims for full implementation across Bihar by 2026-27.

CBSE has already introduced AI as a subject for classes 9 to 12, and Bihar plans to adopt a similar model to advance technical education among government school students. The focus will be on teaching AI, computer skills, data analysis, creative thinking, and problem-solving.

Interactive Learning and Technology Integration

Adobe will provide interactive digital content incorporating visual, audio, and multimedia tools. This approach intends to enhance engagement and comprehension. Additionally, the Education Department plans to analyze student learning patterns and data to forecast future educational needs.

Implementation Timeline and Teacher Training

The pilot phase will begin in select schools during the 2025-26 academic session. By 2026-27, the program will expand to cover middle and higher secondary schools throughout Bihar. After signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Adobe, training sessions will commence for both teachers and students to ensure smooth adoption.

Previously, the department successfully implemented a 'Upgradation Model' using 3D multimedia to teach 28 lakh students across 6,000 schools. This new AI-based initiative will build on that experience at a larger scale.

Securing Students’ Future with Digital Skills

The Bihar government emphasizes that this program will equip students—especially those in rural areas—with the digital competencies needed to compete in future job markets. An official highlighted the goal: “Our aim is for students in rural Bihar to learn computers, data, and AI just as easily as those in urban areas.”

This marks a significant step in empowering Bihar’s new generation with relevant technical education.
