Mumbai's BMC to automate real estate approvals with AI system
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will launch an AI-powered platform to speed up construction project approvals, consolidating multiple civic systems into a single digital interface. Municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide announced the initiative at a National Real Estate Development Council event.
Developers, architects and consultants will submit and track applications in real time through the platform. AI tools will handle document verification, compliance checks and predictive analysis to flag discrepancies and ensure adherence to development control regulations.
The system reduces manual review work and standardizes approval procedures across departments. Officials said the move aims to cut approval timelines and improve transparency for stakeholders in the sector.
The BMC already processes construction approvals within 45 days through end-to-end digitization, according to Mayor Ritu Tawde. The new AI platform builds on this foundation to further streamline the process.
