Caseway AI Legal Ltd. Partners with AffiniPay to Expand Legal AI Access

Thousands of U.S. law firms will soon gain access to advanced legal AI tools through a partnership between Vancouver-based Caseway AI Legal Ltd. and AffiniPay, a fintech company known for its legal payment software MyCase and other management platforms.

As part of the agreement, MyCase users will be able to use Caseway’s automation software directly within the platform. This integration helps legal professionals quickly find relevant case law, review court documents, and streamline legal workflows.

Scaling Up for a Growing User Base

Alistair Vigier, co-founder and CEO of Caseway, highlighted the scale of the contract, which involves thousands of law firms across the United States. The company plans to enhance its infrastructure to support the increased demand.

Currently a team of five, Caseway aims to hire over 20 new employees, primarily developers and customer support staff, by the end of the year to meet contract requirements and ensure smooth service.

Background and Capabilities of Caseway AI

Vigier, who has prior experience in the legal industry, started Caseway less than a year ago. He was motivated by the challenge of sorting through large volumes of legal documents and believed AI could simplify this process.

Caseway aggregates information from courts, tribunals, and boards into a single platform. Users can search legal documents and court decisions, or upload their own case files. The AI then analyzes these documents to answer specific queries.

For example, a firm could upload 100,000 employment agreements and ask how many are outdated or contain a particular clause. Caseway’s AI scans and extracts this information quickly, saving hours of manual review.

Legal Controversy and Market Response

Last November, Caseway faced a lawsuit from the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII), which accused the company of scraping its database without permission. Caseway denies this, stating it only uses public domain court documents obtained directly from courts.

The lawsuit, while unresolved, increased Caseway’s visibility and led to a rise in user subscriptions. No final judgement has been made in the case so far.
