China Leads Global AI Development with Over 1,500 Large Models
China has surged ahead in artificial intelligence development, releasing 1,509 large AI models so far. This places China at the top globally out of 3,755 large models launched worldwide, according to a report from Xinhua citing the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2025.
The global AI ecosystem continues to grow, with more than 35,000 AI enterprises in operation. China hosts over 5,100 of these companies, making it a major hub for AI innovation and business activity.
Strong Presence of AI Unicorns in China
Among the world's 271 AI unicorns, China accounts for 71, which is roughly 26% of the total. These high-value startups are driving advances across several key sectors including:
