Cleveland Clinic Hosts Its First AI Summit for Healthcare Professionals
On July 11, 2025, more than 650 healthcare professionals gathered at the InterContinental Cleveland Hotel for Cleveland Clinic’s inaugural AI Summit. The event brought together clinicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, administrators, and trainees to focus on practical applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Held in partnership with the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the summit addressed how AI is changing healthcare delivery, patient care, and medical education.
AI’s Role in Healthcare Today and Tomorrow
“Artificial Intelligence will transform how we live, connect, and work,” said Jame Abraham, M.D., Chairman of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic. He emphasized that AI will not replace healthcare providers but that professionals unfamiliar with AI risk falling behind.
This event was designed to help healthcare professionals understand current AI technologies and how to safely adopt them. Attendees joined either in person or online, with 450 attending onsite and 200 virtually.
Summit Highlights
- Dr. David Rhew, Microsoft’s Global Chief Medical Officer, presented the company’s vision for enhancing healthcare with AI.
- Scott Steele, M.D., President of Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Submarket, and Ben Shahshahani, Ph.D., Cleveland Clinic’s Chief AI Officer, led a panel on safely innovating with AI.
- Serpil Erzurum, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Research and Academic Officer, discussed the changes AI will bring to medical education.
Ben Shahshahani, who became Cleveland Clinic’s first Chief AI Officer last year, highlighted the institution’s ongoing commitment to integrating AI to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
