Cognizant and Palantir Join Forces to Modernize TriZetto and Scale Secure AI Across Industries

Cognizant and Palantir team up to push practical AI into healthcare operations

Cognizant and Palantir announced a strategic partnership that brings Palantir Foundry and the Palantir Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) into Cognizant's TriZetto healthcare platforms and business process operations. The move targets AI-driven modernization in highly regulated, high-volume workflows where accuracy, auditability, and speed matter.

The collaboration also extends beyond healthcare. Both companies plan to pursue broader enterprise AI projects using Cognizant's delivery scale and Palantir's software stack to deliver secure, governed solutions at production scale.

What this means for healthcare operations

  • Stronger data foundation: A shared, governed data layer to align payers, providers, and operations teams on a single view of members, providers, benefits, authorizations, and claims.
  • Faster iteration: Tighter loops between product teams and operations to test, measure, and deploy AI-enabled features without compromising compliance.
  • Embedded AI in core workflows: AI agents and copilots that work inside adjudication, prior authorization, utilization management, and member service flows-backed by audit trails.
  • Better throughput and accuracy: Automation for repetitive tasks and decision support for complex cases, with human override and monitoring.

Where AIP and Foundry fit with TriZetto

TriZetto remains the operational backbone for many payers. Foundry provides the integrated data, governance, and lineage. AIP introduces agents, copilots, and workflow-level orchestration with controls for access, approvals, and logging.

That stack is built to support strong compliance, audit-ready records, and repeatable deployment patterns-key for HIPAA-covered processes and multi-entity coordination.

Leaders' take

"This partnership reflects our commitment to using frontier technologies to deliver value for our clients, while also transforming our own businesses for the next era of AI-led growth," said Surya Gummadi, President, Americas, Cognizant. "By combining Palantir's AI platform capabilities with Cognizant's deep industry expertise and global engineering scale, we are strengthening our ability to modernize mission-critical platforms like TriZetto while creating new opportunities to build purpose-driven, enterprise-grade solutions that help clients transform how they operate and deliver the experiences and outcomes their customers expect."

"Enterprise AI doesn't fail because models are weak. It fails when AI lacks a shared, governed understanding of how the business actually operates - something only the Ontology can provide," said Eric Lakin, US Commercial Lead at Palantir. "That's why we're excited to partner with Cognizant and bring AIP to TriZetto, embedding AI into core workflows to transform enterprises from the ground up."

Practical use cases to watch

  • Claims intake and triage: Classify, route, and pre-validate with explainable rules plus AI checks; escalate edge cases.
  • Prior authorization: Auto-assemble medical necessity context, surface guideline citations, and recommend decisions with transparent reasoning.
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse: Pattern detection with human review, evidence packs, and full traceability.
  • Member operations: Intent detection and case summarization for contact centers; next-best-action aligned to benefits and history.
  • Provider operations: Credentialing assistance, directory accuracy, and network analytics for access and leakage.
  • Utilization management and appeals: Case summarization, evidence compilation, and consistent policy application.

What to expect next

  • Pilots inside TriZetto and BPaaS operations focused on high-volume, high-cost workflows.
  • Security and compliance baselines (access controls, lineage, monitoring) to support audit needs from day one.
  • Iterative releases with measurable outcomes-cycle time, first-pass yield, cost per case, and member/provider satisfaction.
  • Expansion to other enterprise functions where governed data and AI agents can reduce manual work.

How to prepare your organization

  • Pick 2-3 workflows with clear ROI and policy clarity (e.g., prior auth for specific specialties, claims edits for top DRGs/CPTs).
  • Inventory data sources and controls: PHI handling, role-based access, lineage, and retention.
  • Define human-in-the-loop points: approvals, overrides, and feedback loops to improve models and rules.
  • Set outcome metrics and guardrails up front: accuracy thresholds, SLA impact, and exception rates.
  • Align with compliance and security early: HIPAA, SOC 2, model risk, and third-party risk reviews.
  • Plan change management: training for frontline teams, playbooks, and clear escalation paths.

Beyond healthcare

The partnership is not limited to payers and providers. Expect joint work across industries that rely on governed data, strict access controls, and operational scale-manufacturing, public sector, and financial services among them.

Why this partnership matters now

Most AI programs stall not because models can't predict, but because data isn't aligned to operations, and controls are fragmented. By pairing TriZetto's operational footprint with Foundry's data governance and AIP's workflow agents, the path from prototype to production gets shorter-and safer.

For healthcare operations leaders, that can translate to lower administrative cost, fewer handoffs, and faster responses for members and providers-without giving up control or auditability.
