Commvault Strengthens AI Data Security with Satori Acquisition
Commvault is enhancing its cyber resilience platform by acquiring Satori Cyber, a company known for its agentless, cloud-native data and AI security solutions. This addition brings real-time data access controls and AI governance capabilities designed to improve security across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
The move responds to the challenges enterprises face: rapid data growth, increased AI adoption, and tighter regulatory demands. Security teams now require more than traditional backup—they need visibility, access management, and governance integrated specifically for AI workloads.
Real-Time Controls and AI Governance
Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Commvault’s chief product officer, emphasizes that securing sensitive data across distributed environments is increasingly complex. By integrating Satori’s real-time, agentless controls, Commvault aims to deliver secure data access, AI governance, and policy enforcement across platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, and Databricks.
What Satori Brings to Commvault
Satori specializes in managing and securing structured data, including datasets used to train large language models. The acquisition equips Commvault customers with tools for:
- Real-time access management
- Automated data discovery and classification
- LLM-specific protections such as prompt tracking and usage monitoring
Satori’s agentless architecture fits well with modern, fast-moving data environments. It complements Commvault’s goal of delivering full cyber resilience, covering everything from data discovery to secure recovery workflows.
Eldad Chai, CEO and co-founder of Satori, highlights that integrating next-generation AI capabilities with Commvault’s platform will provide a unified approach to securing sensitive data and AI pipelines—from discovery and governance to access management and cyber recovery.
Impact on MSPs and Channel Partners
Managed Service Providers (MSPs) supporting cloud and edge environments will find this acquisition particularly relevant. AI governance is becoming an essential component of data protection, not optional. As vendors move beyond backup to include real-time monitoring and policy enforcement, MSPs need platforms that simplify compliance and protect AI infrastructure.
Satori’s compatibility with tools like Snowflake and Microsoft Fabric aligns with the environments MSPs increasingly manage. This acquisition equips service providers with the means to manage structured data, secure AI workflows, and reduce risk for their clients in real time.
Frank Dickson, group VP at IDC, notes that Satori’s multi-cloud data activity monitoring, discovery, and policy enforcement will enhance Commvault’s ability to help clients simplify compliance and mitigate security and privacy risks.
The deal is expected to close in August 2025.
