Cornell, Toyota Research Institute Launch AI and Robotics Partnership

Cornell University is joining 30 other institutions in a new collaborative research program with the Toyota Research Institute focused on artificial intelligence and robotics. The Toyota Research Institute announced the partnerships May 18 as part of its University Research Program 3.0.

Each project pairs university researchers with Toyota Research Institute investigators working as equal partners. The structure ensures fundamental research and practical applications develop in tandem rather than separately.

Cornell's Projects

Hadas Kress-Gazit and Guy Hoffman, both in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell, are co-leading one project. Angelina Wang, an assistant professor of information science at Cornell Tech, leads a separate initiative.

The program spans 31 universities across multiple research areas beyond AI and robotics.

Researchers working on AI for Science & Research can explore how academic partnerships structure collaboration between industry and universities.
