Cornell hosts summit focused on foundational AI research
Nearly 300 researchers, industry leaders, and nonprofit innovators gathered at Cornell Tech on May 27 for the inaugural Frontiers of AI Summit to discuss the foundational advances driving artificial intelligence forward.
The event brought together participants from Cornell University, Princeton University, Columbia University, and New York University alongside representatives from organizations including the Simons Foundation and Biohub, as well as AI startups like Cursor, Gimlet Labs, Makora, and Radical AI.
The mix reflected AI's breadth today. Discussions spanned core system design, applications in science, medicine, and engineering, and the research underpinning these advances.
Yoav Artzi, associate professor of computer science at Cornell Tech, organized the summit. "We created this space in New York City where the people pushing the boundaries of AI - in academia, science, and industry - can come together to think deeply rather than just move fast," Artzi said.
The turnout demonstrated demand for that kind of dialogue. It also highlighted the concentration of AI innovation and research happening in New York.
