Egyptian and Saudi Foreign Ministers Address Regional Tensions Amid Israel-Iran Escalation

Recent discussions between the Egyptian and Saudi foreign ministers have focused on the growing tensions between Israel and Iran and their potential impact on regional stability. Egypt's Foreign Minister emphasized the country's readiness to participate in development projects in Iraq, signaling a commitment to regional economic cooperation despite the escalating geopolitical risks.

In parallel, Egyptian and Iranian foreign ministers met in Istanbul to hold talks aimed at easing tensions. The Egyptian Foreign Minister also warned that any further escalation in the region could lead to unprecedented repercussions.

On the energy front, Egypt's Prime Minister conducted an inspection of the Sumed port ahead of the arrival of the "Energos Eskimo" LNG vessel. The government confirmed plans to deploy three LNG regasification ships by July to meet the rising demand for gas and fuel. This move underscores the government's focus on securing energy supplies amid increasing consumption pressures.

Additionally, Egypt plans to introduce its first real estate tax breaks in the first quarter of the next fiscal year, indicating a strategic approach to economic reforms. The Foreign Minister also attended the opening of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' meeting in Istanbul, highlighting Egypt's active diplomatic engagement in the region.

Launch of AI Center for Sustainable Development in Rome Includes Egyptian Participation

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat took part in the inauguration of the "Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainable Development Center" held at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) headquarters in Rome. This initiative is part of Italy's 2024 G7 Presidency and aims to boost digital transformation and AI-driven industrial growth across Africa.

The launch event was attended by Italy’s Minister of Enterprises, Adolfo Urso, along with ministers and officials from various African nations, international organizations, and leaders from global and African tech sectors. Minister Talaat participated following an official invitation from Minister Urso.

The AI center will initially collaborate with fourteen African countries, including Egypt, to improve AI infrastructure, expand computing resources for innovators, and foster partnerships between African startups and companies based in G7 countries, particularly Italy. This initiative aligns with the African Union's AI Strategy and targets sustainable development through technological advancement.

  • Accelerate digital transformation across Africa
