Entravision's AI Radio Host Is Drawing Younger Latino Listeners in Southern California
Entravision Communications has deployed an AI-generated on-air personality called Coyotec at KLYY-FM in Riverside-San Bernardino, pairing the artificial voice with human host GeeGee Guzman on the show "Al Aire y Sin Permiso." The experiment is working: the station reports strong gains among Hispanic men 25-54 since expanding the program in April.
Coyotec debuted in September 2025 under Eduardo Maytorena, the radio division's senior vice president and general manager, and LeaAnna Hernandez, Entravision's executive vice president of AI strategy. The station's signal reaches much of Los Angeles and Orange County.
This marks only the third full-time AI on-air personality at a major U.S. radio station. Alpha Media deployed "AI Ashley" at a Portland station, and Zelus Media Group introduced AI versions of veteran hosts at a Phoenix station. iHeartMedia took the opposite approach in December 2025, banning AI personalities and promoting "Guaranteed Human" branding instead.
What Makes This Different
Coyotec is the first Spanish-language AI personality in radio. Guzman said the show occupies unique territory: "We're breaking completely new ground. It's a space where tech meets the streets of LA, keeping our audience locked into a conversation that literally no one else is having."
Maytorena framed the results as evidence of a new radio model. "For years, radio has been sold as inventory," he said. "We believe the future is about experiences, storytelling, and audience connection."
Hernandez emphasized the cultural angle. "Latinos have always been creators, innovators, and resilient problem-solvers," she said. "Al Aire y Sin Permiso celebrates that spirit and reminds us that we're not just participating in the future - we're helping shape it."
The Numbers
KLYY dominates ratings in Riverside-San Bernardino as measured by Nielsen Audio. The station's overall Los Angeles ratings have trended slightly downward in recent months, though the Riverside-San Bernardino market remains strong.
The two-hour expansion in April preceded the reported gains in the 25-54 male demographic, suggesting the format resonates with that audience segment.
