EPCC Professor Selected for NSF AI Education Fellowship
Dr. Christian Servin, a computer science professor at El Paso Community College, has been selected as a National Science Foundation AI Education Fellow. He is one of 25 fellows in the inaugural cohort.
The fellowship runs from March 2026 through February 2027. It supports professors working to expand undergraduate artificial intelligence education and integrate new resources into existing coursework.
Servin brings more than 15 years of experience in software development and academia. His work focuses on aligning curriculum with emerging technologies and the skills employers actually need.
What the Fellowship Covers
The NSF fellowship provides support for faculty members redesigning courses and programs around AI. It targets schools looking to build or strengthen undergraduate AI education offerings.
For educators interested in similar work, resources on AI for Education and AI for Teachers offer practical guidance on integrating AI into classroom instruction.
Why This Matters for Educators
Community colleges serve students preparing for immediate workforce entry. Aligning AI education with real job requirements helps graduates compete in a labor market where AI skills are increasingly expected.
Servin's selection reflects growing recognition that AI education requires faculty with both technical depth and teaching experience. His background in both areas positions him to help other educators make similar transitions.
