Everkind and Conformance AI Join Forces to Keep AI Mental Health Support Safe and Trustworthy

Everkind taps Conformance AI to raise the bar on safety and quality in emotionally nuanced AI

Toronto, Ontario - Everkind, an AI-powered mental wellness company, has partnered with Conformance AI to independently evaluate and monitor how its AI supports users through sensitive, emotion-heavy conversations. The engagement spans Everkind's AI Journaling and SMS chat experiences with a focus on safety, reliability, and responsible behavior. The first evaluation and remediation recommendations were completed prior to Everkind's December 15 launch, with ongoing reviews planned.

Why this matters for product development

LLM features in mental wellness carry higher stakes. Independent oversight reduces blind spots, validates guardrails, and aligns product decisions with emerging standards-without slowing a team to a crawl.

"This puts our belief into practice: how AI is used and its guardrails protecting the user are important to us as we evolve with regulations in this fast growing industry," said Harrison Newlands, Everkind Founder and CEO. "So many companies ship LLM based products without much consideration for what could go wrong, so it's refreshing to see Everkind make reliability and conformance testing a focal point," said Corvin Binder, Conformance AI CEO.

What Conformance AI will evaluate

  • Safety behaviors: refusal boundaries, deferrals to human help, and crisis-sensitive handling.
  • Reliability: consistency across prompts, contexts, and sessions, including regression checks after updates.
  • Grounded guidance: factuality, source-backed outputs, and avoidance of false reassurance.
  • Conversation appropriateness: tone, empathy, and suitability for vulnerable moments.
  • Monitoring loop: ongoing testing, incident reviews, and remediation recommendations.

Guardrails product teams can borrow

  • Define an incident taxonomy (P0-P2) with clear escalation steps and SLAs.
  • Codify refusal and deferral patterns for sensitive topics; test for consistency and leakage.
  • Use grounding strategies (retrieval, structured content) and evaluate for unsupported claims.
  • Run targeted red-teaming on emotion-laden prompts (crisis language, medical claims, identity-based harm).
  • Instrument post-release monitoring: sampling, alert thresholds, and on-call runbooks.
  • Document user messaging for boundaries: what the AI can/can't do and when it hands off.

Metrics worth tracking

  • Safety event rate and severity distribution (including false reassurance rate).
  • Groundedness/factuality score and refusal precision/recall.
  • Deferral accuracy: did the system hand off at the right times?
  • Helpfulness within guardrails (no workaround prompts needed to get safe, useful output).
  • Latency and conversational stability across long sessions.

Governance and documentation

Treat AI quality like a system, not a feature. Keep living docs for model/version changes, eval results, known limitations, and rollback criteria-so product, legal, and support stay aligned.

If you're building your own framework, anchor it to well-known references like the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the ISO/IEC 42001 AI management system standard. These help translate principles into repeatable practices that survive release cycles.

What this signals

Everkind is baking external checks into its lifecycle, not treating them as a pre-launch hurdle. For product teams, the takeaway is simple: build the feedback loop early, measure what matters, and let independent review pressure-test your assumptions.
