Afori launches in Germany with €4M pre-seed to bring AI-driven efficiency to insurance brokers

Berlin-based Afori has come out of stealth with a €4 million pre-seed round led by General Catalyst. The platform is built for insurance brokers and targets the daily admin grind that eats into client time and revenue.

"Insurance brokers still spend the majority of their day tied up in administrative work, a burden that is only growing heavier with increasing regulation," said Fabian Wesemann, Co-Founder and CEO of Afori. "At Afori, we've worked hand-in-hand with brokers to design a solution that speaks their language, understands their processes, and gives them back the most valuable resource of all: time to advise their clients."

What Afori does

Afori's first product is an intelligent AI sidebar that lives where brokers already work: the inbox. It turns emails and documents into cases with structured tasks and delegates partial automations to insurance-specific AI agents.

Early users report an average time saving of one hour per day. "Unlike generic productivity tools, Afori's AI is trained on real broker use cases and insurance-specific terminology," added Sergi Banos, Co-founder and CTO. "By combining Agentic AI with deep industry expertise, we're creating a product that integrates seamlessly into brokers' daily workflows and delivers real, tangible value from the very first day."

Who's behind it

Afori was founded in 2025 by Fabian Wesemann and Sergi Banos, bringing experience as former founders and early leaders at InsurTech unicorn wefox. Their focus: reduce back-office friction so brokers can protect margins and strengthen client relationships.

Funding and backers

The €4 million pre-seed was led by General Catalyst with participation from Yellow and Booom. Industry leaders joining the round include Christopher Lohmann (Founder of Mulberry Ventures, ex-CEO HDI and Gothaer), Chris Leifeld (Founder Thinksurance) and Garrett Koehn (CIO CRC).

Recognised AI leaders also participated: Mustafa Suleyman (CEO, Microsoft AI), Alex Rinke (Founder & Co-CEO Celonis) and Mehdi Ghissassi (ex-Google DeepMind). "We are backing a team with domain expertise, deep understanding of insurance brokers' pain points, and the vision to lead AI transformation in insurance services," said Zeynep Yavuz, Partner at General Catalyst.

Context: AI momentum across European InsurTech

Afori's raise fits a broader 2025 push to apply AI to insurance workflows across Europe. Recent rounds highlight where capital is flowing:

  • ClaimSorted (London): €11.4M to modernise claims handling
  • Seyna (Paris): €10M to expand its broker-dedicated platform
  • Orus (France): €25M for SME-focused insurance services
  • Leaf (Denmark): €1.7M for AI-driven business insurance and pension advice
  • muffintech (Berlin): €3.5M to build AI tools for insurers and brokers

The signal is clear: specialised, AI-enabled platforms that reduce administrative work and improve throughput are gaining traction.

Go-to-market and what's next

The funding will accelerate product development, deepen integrations, and drive adoption in Germany. Afori will debut its platform at DKM 2025 on October 28-29 in Dortmund, where brokers can see the assistant in action and meet the team.

Event details: DKM - Leitmesse für die Finanz- und Versicherungswirtschaft.

Why this matters for brokers

Most brokerages spend 60%+ of their time on back-office tasks. Automating email-to-case creation, task structuring, and routine follow-ups inside the inbox can free capacity for advice, renewals, and upsell opportunities-without disrupting existing systems.
