Freepik rebrands to Magnific as creative software consolidates around AI
Freepik has rebranded to Magnific, marking its shift from a stock image platform into a unified creative tool. The rebrand reflects a broader industry move toward all-in-one software that combines image, video, audio, and 3D capabilities with AI assistance.
The company acquired the upscaling tool Magnific two years ago as part of its expansion into AI. Now it's using that name for the entire platform, which includes 250 million assets and collaborative features. Existing subscriptions continue unchanged.
The barrier to entry is collapsing
Magnific reports that 72% of new creators joining the platform identify as beginners. The company signed over 1,000 subscriptions in six weeks, with more than half of new users deploying AI-driven workflows across film studios, agencies, and brands.
CEO Joaquín Cuenca Abela said: "The creatives, the dreamers, are about to become more powerful than anyone expected. That's the no-collar economy. And it's already underway."
The shift reflects a fundamental change in what's required to produce professional-level content. What once required expensive software and specialized training now runs on laptops and phones.
Competitors are consolidating too
Magnific is not alone. Canva recently made its design software Affinity and motion tool Cavalry free for all users, merged productivity and creativity tools, and launched Canva AI 2.0. Blackmagic Design added Lightroom-like photo capabilities to its video editing software.
These moves reflect a recognition that AI has lowered the cost and skill required to create professional work. Companies are betting that accessibility will expand their markets and redefine what creators can do.
