AI Skills for Communicators: GCW Parade Ground Hosts Hands-on Workshop with ADiRA

Jammu, Nov 15, 2025 - The Department of Mass Communication and Multimedia Production (MCMP) at Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, partnered with ADiRA-an AI readiness initiative by DataLEADS-to run a focused workshop titled "Preparing the Indian Workforce for the AI Future." The session is part of a national effort to equip media professionals and healthcare workers with practical AI skills that translate directly to communication roles.

Faculty opened the day by underscoring how AI now influences governance, public communication, healthcare, and media workflows. The message was clear: communicators who learn to work with AI will move faster, make better decisions, and produce cleaner, more consistent output.

What the workshop covered

  • Practical use cases in journalism, digital communication, content creation, and public health.
  • Live demos of AI tools for content generation, data analysis, storytelling, and day-to-day communication tasks.
  • Responsible use, continuous learning, and hands-on experimentation to stay industry-ready.
  • Interactive Q&A that surfaced both opportunities and ethical concerns.

The programme featured contributions from Dr. Alpana Vohra (Head, MCMP), who highlighted AI's growing role across institutions and media, and Dr. Ravia Gupta, who led the core training and emphasized that AI amplifies human creativity when paired with sound judgment and domain expertise. The event was coordinated by Mr. Akash Kumar (MCMP), with faculty members Dr. Gurpreet Kour and Dr. Neha Gupta recognizing the value of skill-based training inside academic settings.

Why this matters for PR and communications teams

  • Faster content cycles: Draft, iterate, and localize press materials and briefing notes in minutes.
  • Better insights: Summarize coverage, analyze sentiment, and spot story angles from large datasets.
  • Crisis readiness: Rapid response templates, scenario testing, and message consistency across channels.
  • Quality control: Style enforcement, fact-checking workflows, and bias checks before publishing.
  • Measurement: Automated reporting, attribution cues, and clearer ROI narratives for stakeholders.

Five moves you can make this week

  • Define a "no-go" list for AI use (sensitive data, confidential client info) and share it with your team.
  • Pilot one workflow: media monitoring summaries, press release first drafts, or spokesperson Q&A prep.
  • Create a prompt library for recurring tasks (boilerplates, bylines, social captions, FAQs).
  • Add human-in-the-loop checks: source verification, tone review, and compliance sign-off.
  • Track simple KPIs: time saved per asset, error rate, and turnaround speed from brief to publish.

Ethics and policy context

The workshop stressed responsible adoption-privacy, transparency, and accountability matter as much as speed. For teams working across regions, keep an eye on standards like the EU AI Act to inform internal guidelines.
