Greek Tourism Board Discusses AI and Sustainable Practices at London Workshop
The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) participated in a workshop in London this week examining how artificial intelligence affects tourism development, with particular attention to regenerative models that go beyond standard sustainability practices.
The workshop, titled "Smart and Regenerative Tourism & Hospitality Competitiveness in the AI Era," drew around 100 tourism professionals. Bournemouth University's International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research organized the event alongside the Central London Alliance and Blue Orchid Hotels.
Greek Examples on the Panel
Eleni Skarveli, head of GNTO UK & Ireland, spoke on a panel about how destinations and hospitality businesses can adopt regenerative approaches to remain competitive in technology-driven markets. She presented three Greek examples: Tilos and the GR-eco islands initiative, a plastic recycling workshop on Syros run by KOINSEP in collaboration with the Cyclades Preservation Fund, and Epirus as a sustainable tourism destination built on natural environment and cultural heritage.
Skarveli also highlighted SustainableGreece.co.uk, a platform the GNTO uses to promote Greek destinations and their sustainable practices.
Who Attended
The panel included Virginia Messina, CEO of the African Travel and Tourism Association, and academics from Bournemouth University. Professor Adele Ladkin moderated the discussion.
The workshop ended with networking sessions among attendees.
