Google Docs Adds AI Drafting and Style-Matching Tools to Gemini
Google has expanded Gemini's capabilities in Google Docs to help writers draft, edit, and refine documents automatically. The update pulls reference information from across Google Workspace-including Gmail and Google Drive-to generate drafts more efficiently.
Writers can now ask Gemini to polish language, strengthen structure, and adjust formatting to match a requested style. The AI analyzes existing content and refines wording without requiring manual rewrites.
New Feature: Match Writing Style
Google introduced a tool called Match writing style that analyzes the tone and patterns of different contributors. It then adjusts the document so multiple authors produce work with consistent voice and structure.
This feature targets teams that need unified documents despite having different writers. It reduces the editing work required to harmonize collaborative pieces.
Availability and Rollout
The new capabilities are rolling out gradually to users on Google's AI Pro and AI Ultra subscription tiers. Initially, features are available only in English, with additional language support coming later.
For writers managing multiple documents or working across teams, these tools reduce the time spent on revision cycles. Learn more about AI for Writers and how automation is changing writing workflows.
