Google Completes Wiz Acquisition, Unifying Cloud and AI Security

Google has completed its acquisition of Wiz, a cloud and AI security company, formalizing a deal first announced in March 2025. The move positions Google Cloud to compete more directly in enterprise security markets where traditional threat detection struggles to keep pace with AI-driven application development.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said the acquisition addresses "a growing number of cybersecurity threats" across industries. The combined platform will merge Google's threat intelligence and security operations with Wiz's cloud security capabilities, enabling detection and response across multiple environments.

Connecting code to cloud

Wiz's core strength lies in mapping software architecture and runtime behavior in real time. The integrated solution provides visibility from development through production, identifying vulnerabilities before they become breaches.

Assaf Rappaport, Wiz's CEO and co-founder, said the acquisition represents an evolution of the company's founding mission. "What has changed is the world around us. Now, we must do this at the speed of AI," he said.

Rappaport emphasized that Wiz's mission remains unchanged: helping organizations "protect everything they build and run." The difference is execution speed in environments where threats and opportunities multiply at algorithmic velocity.

What the market sees

Phil Bues, senior research manager of cloud security at IDC, said Google is addressing a critical need. "Complexity is the primary challenge in the cloud today and Google is addressing the need for a simplified 'code-to-cloud' security strategy that works across any environment," Bues said.

Jason Girzadas, Deloitte US CEO, framed the acquisition as strategically significant for enterprise clients navigating AI scaling and evolving cybersecurity threats.

Amiram Shachar, co-founder and CEO of Upwind, called the deal positive for the broader security industry. "Wiz has helped demonstrate that this category truly has no ceiling - it's one of the fastest-growing and most important markets as organisations and cloud providers continue to prioritise securing cloud infrastructure and workloads," Shachar said.
