Google Photos adds AI photo-to-video and creative Remix features for Android users
Google Photos adds AI-driven features like photo-to-video clips and Remix, letting you animate and stylize images easily. These tools are experimental and rolling out soon in the U.S.

Google Photos Brings New AI-Powered Creativity to Android Users
Google Photos is introducing fresh creative features driven by AI, aimed at helping you bring your images to life. The latest update adds photo-to-video capabilities and a dynamic "Remix" function, making it easier to transform static photos into engaging clips and artistic renditions.
Photo-to-Video Clips: Animate Your Memories
The new photo-to-video feature lets you turn a still image into a short six-second animated clip. Powered by Google's AI technology Veo 2, this tool offers two options: "subtle movements" for gentle animations or "I'm feeling lucky" for more playful effects like confetti bursts. Once created, these clips can be saved or shared directly from the app.
Users will see a prompt encouraging them to “turn your photos into a video” when opening the app. This feature is now available on both Android and iOS devices in the U.S.
Remix: Reimagine Your Photos with Style
Another creative addition is Remix, which lets you transform photos into various artistic styles. Whether you want to convert a Christmas snapshot into an anime scene or give a birthday photo a comic or 3D animation effect, Remix offers multiple options to experiment with. The feature works on images of people and pets, providing a fun way to reimagine your favorite moments.
Remixed images are marked with a SynthID digital watermark to clearly indicate AI-generated content. Remix will roll out on Android and iOS in the coming weeks across the U.S.
Experimental Features with User Feedback
Google notes that both photo-to-video and Remix are experimental tools that may occasionally produce unexpected results. Users are encouraged to provide feedback using thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons to help improve the experience.
A Dedicated Space for Creativity: The Upcoming Create Tab
Later this summer, Google plans to introduce a new "Create" tab in the Photos app interface. This tab will group all AI-driven creative tools, including photo-to-video and Remix, alongside classic options like collages and highlight videos. The Create tab is expected to debut in August, initially for U.S. users.
This update gives creatives a streamlined way to explore and apply AI enhancements directly within Google Photos, expanding how memories can be styled and shared.
