Government Uses AI to Foster Quran Appreciation Among Youth
The Malaysian government is actively promoting Quran appreciation among younger generations by integrating modern technology, including artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to nurture a generation rooted in Quranic values within the MADANI framework.
Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), emphasized this commitment during the closing ceremony of the 65th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) held in Kuala Lumpur.
Strengthening Quranic Development Programs
Religious agencies continue to lead Quranic development efforts, with institutions like Darul Quran under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) serving as professional tahfiz centers. These centers have produced thousands of skilled huffaz dedicated to serving the nation and the ummah.
Additionally, the introduction of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives for tahfiz students is a strategic move. It equips graduates with technical, entrepreneurial, and other practical skills alongside Quran memorization, preparing them for broader contributions to society.
International Quran Assembly as a Unifying Platform
The 65th MTHQA, themed “Membangun Ummah MADANI,” reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the dignity of the ummah. Since its inception in 1961, this assembly has served as a key platform for uniting Muslims worldwide.
This year’s event hosted 71 participants from 49 countries, highlighting its international significance. Winners in Quran recitation and memorization received RM40,000 cash prizes, jewellery sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), and certificates.
Practical Steps Forward
- Continue supporting Quranic education with the integration of AI tools to engage youth effectively.
- Expand TVET programs to produce Quran memorisers with diverse skills for the evolving workforce.
- Maintain and elevate international Quran competitions to foster global Muslim unity and recognition.
Government workers and policymakers can look at this model as an example of combining tradition with technology to achieve educational and cultural goals.
