Guangxi Province Launches AI Super League Targeting ASEAN Start-ups
China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has introduced an artificial intelligence competition called the “AI for All” super league. The initiative focuses on supporting emerging AI enterprises and talent with solutions tailored for ASEAN markets.
The competition runs through September and includes 17 categories, covering sectors such as automobiles, tourism, cross-border e-commerce, smart agriculture, and market regulation. This broad range highlights the diverse opportunities AI presents across industries.
Multi-City Kickoff with Regional and ASEAN Participation
Hosted by the Guangxi regional government, the launch event took place simultaneously in eight cities: Nanning (Guangxi’s capital), Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. This multi-location approach underlines the competition’s regional scope and its connection to ASEAN economies.
Hong Kong’s Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, emphasized the city’s growing AI ecosystem, which includes over 1,000 AI enterprises. He noted that the competition supports Hong Kong’s strategy to develop AI as a key industry, accelerating economic transformation and strengthening ties with ASEAN markets.
Guangxi’s Strategic Role in China-ASEAN Cooperation
Bordering Vietnam, Guangxi has been a hub for collaboration with ASEAN for many years. It has hosted the China-ASEAN Expo for 22 consecutive years, reinforcing its position as a bridge between China and Southeast Asia.
Trade data shows ASEAN remains Guangxi’s largest trading partner for 25 years in a row. In 2024, total trade volume hit 398 billion yuan (approximately US$55.4 billion), marking a 17% increase compared to previous years. These figures highlight the importance of the ASEAN market for Guangxi’s economic growth.
