Harvey acquires Hexus to speed AI adoption for in-house legal teams
Harvey, the high-flying legal AI startup, has acquired Hexus, a two-year-old company known for tools that create product demos, videos, and guides. It's a clear signal: Harvey is expanding fast to win the legal tech market.
Hexus founder and CEO Sakshi Pratap and her San Francisco-based team have already joined Harvey. The India engineering team will follow once Harvey opens a Bangalore office.
What Hexus brings to Harvey
Hexus builds lightweight, practical tooling for demos, how-to videos, and guided workflows. That's useful for legal AI where adoption hinges on clear instructions, repeatable playbooks, and fast onboarding.
Pratap will lead an engineering group focused on accelerating Harvey's offerings for in-house legal departments. As she put it, her team brings deep experience building enterprise AI tools in adjacent problem spaces-experience Harvey can put to work right away.
Deal snapshot
Hexus raised $1.6 million from Pear VC, Liquid 2 Ventures, and angel investors before the sale. Terms weren't disclosed, though the structure is aligned around long-term team incentives.
Harvey's momentum
Harvey confirmed last fall an $8 billion valuation after raising $160 million, bringing total funding in 2025 to $760 million. The latest round was led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from T. Rowe Price and WndrCo, alongside existing backers Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Conviction, and angel investor Elad Gil. Earlier in the year, Sequoia led a $300 million Series D at a $3 billion valuation.
The company says it now serves 1,000+ clients across 60 countries, including most of the top 10 U.S. law firms.
Origin story: a cold email and a quick yes
Co-founder and CEO Winston Weinberg traces Harvey's start back to testing GPT-3 on landlord-tenant questions from Reddit with co-founder Gabe Pereyra. When they showed the outputs to attorneys, two out of three said they would send 86 of 100 responses with zero edits. That result kicked off a July 4, 2022 cold email to Sam Altman-and a quick first check from the OpenAI Startup Fund, which remains Harvey's second-largest investor.

Why this matters for legal departments
The Hexus acquisition isn't just about more engineers. It's about smoother deployment, clearer guidance, and getting lawyers to use AI tools consistently. Expect tighter onboarding flows, built-in tutorials, and living playbooks that make day-to-day use less effort.
For in-house teams under pressure to deliver more with less, this reduces training time and helps standardize repeatable work-contract review, matter intake, policy interpretation, research triage, and internal knowledge responses.
Practical steps to capture value
- Pick 2-3 high-volume workflows (e.g., NDAs, vendor DDQs, policy FAQs). Define success metrics: cycle time, first-pass accuracy, escalation rates.
- Demand embedded guides in the tool: short videos, clickable walkthroughs, and checklists. Adoption improves when help lives in the workflow.
- Set review tiers. For medium-risk items, require spot checks instead of full second review to protect speed without compromising quality.
- Align data governance early. Document redlines on training data, retention, audit logs, and PII handling. Involve security and privacy upfront.
- Run a 6-8 week pilot with weekly metrics and page-level feedback. Kill what doesn't move the needle; scale what does.
- Create role-specific playbooks: counsel, paralegal, ops. Different roles need different prompts, templates, and escalation paths.
- Measure downstream impact: fewer vendor escalations, cleaner handoffs to outside counsel, and reduced SLA breaches.
Bottom line
Harvey wants to win inside the enterprise. Hexus adds the "last mile" that gets AI into daily legal workflows-clear instructions, guided experiences, and faster adoption. If you're evaluating legal AI, prioritize vendors that ship this level of enablement out of the box.
