Hoban Construction Launches AI-Based Platform to Streamline Defect Management
Hoban Construction officially introduced an AI-driven defect management platform called Chadel to enhance the speed and efficiency of defect handling in new rental housing projects. This integrated system aims to simplify the entire defect management workflow, from detection to repair, benefiting site teams and residents alike.
How AI Checker Transforms Defect Handling
The core component of Chadel, named AI Checker, was developed in collaboration with Hoban’s open innovation team and the home tech startup 'Eum'. It utilizes multimodal AI technology, processing images and language data to manage defect reception, classification, and repair tasks seamlessly.
On-site managers simply capture an image of a defect, and AI Checker automatically identifies and categorizes the issue. The system then routes the classified defects to the appropriate specialized contractors for repair work. Throughout the process, managers can track repair progress and update residents on completion schedules in real time.
This automation replaces a previously manual sorting process, significantly reducing operational workload and speeding up defect resolution. Additionally, analyzing aggregated defect data enables continuous improvement in defect handling and overall construction quality.
Advancing Quality Management and Resident Services
Kim Jae-eun, head of Hoban Construction’s open innovation team, stated that implementing this technology on-site has strengthened quality management significantly. The company is also developing a smart residential app called Hoban On, which will integrate AI to offer enhanced resident environment improvement services.
Integrating Additional Smart Construction Technologies
- Partnering with drone specialist company 'Komafer', Hoban Construction applies AI video analysis to detect major defects during construction phases.
- In May, a pilot test of a wall painting robot was successfully completed at the Hoban Summit Incheon Geomdan Block AB19 site.
These efforts reflect Hoban Construction’s commitment to incorporating innovative technologies that improve quality control and operational efficiency on construction sites.
