Honeywell and Stereolabs: Enabling Intelligent Operations

Honeywell and Stereolabs have teamed up to develop a mobile solution that simplifies supply chain logistics by accurately measuring parcel sizes. This collaboration focuses on improving distribution centre efficiency with precise data on parcel dimensions and weight, helping businesses speed up deliveries and cut shipping costs.

Streamlining Logistics Operations

Honeywell, known for its work in aerospace and industrial automation, is applying its expertise to solve logistical challenges. With a workforce of around 110,000 employees worldwide, Honeywell is well-positioned to innovate warehouse management. Partnering with Stereolabs, a specialist in 3D computer vision and AI perception, the two companies have integrated Honeywell’s SwiftDecoder software with Stereolabs’ stereoscopic cameras.

These cameras provide real-time depth sensing and 3D mapping. Together, they deliver accurate measurements of weight, size, and barcode data, enabling logistics operators to optimize truck loading with greater precision.

David Barker, President of Honeywell Productivity Solutions and Services, explains, “Products stored in a warehouse and transported on a truck contain a wealth of data, from weight and size to the item’s name, expiration date and warning label on the box. Finding a way to capture this data in one place and use it effectively to streamline processes presents a challenge for many operations. By combining the strengths of Honeywell and Stereolabs, we can help the supply chain operate more efficiently and address major pain points.”

Facilitating Growth in Procurement

Many logistics providers still rely on manual tools like tape measures and scales to determine parcel dimensions and weights. These methods are often slow and prone to errors. The new mobile solution automatically uploads dimension and weight data, improving accuracy and speeding up daily tasks in distribution centres.

The integration of Stereolabs’ ZED stereoscopic camera with Honeywell’s SwiftDecoder software creates comprehensive product dimension data. Once uploaded to central databases, this data allows real-time tracking of cargo dimensions, helping businesses optimize transportation and reduce costs through better load management.

Olivier Braun, Chief Product Officer at Stereolabs, states, “Integrating Honeywell’s SwiftDecoder software together with our ZED cameras and advanced perception stack was a smooth and efficient process. We are now able to deliver a rich, all-in-one data capture solution–combining product dimensions, barcode data, optical character recognition (OCR) information and high-quality imagery–that is seamlessly ready for integration into any warehouse management system.”

Advancement in Warehouse Efficiency

This technology marks a step forward in supply chain efficiency. By reducing the need for manual measurements, warehouse staff can focus more on organizing transport and other critical operations. The solution is straightforward and effective, contributing to long-term savings and smoother workflows.
