Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025: AI Empowers Education and Talent Growth

On May 24, the Closing & Awards Ceremony of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final was held in Shenzhen, China. This 9th edition set a new record with participation from over 210,000 students and instructors representing more than 2,000 colleges and universities across 100+ countries and regions. After intense national and regional rounds, 179 teams from 48 countries advanced to compete in the Global Final.
Competition Highlights and Awards
The competition featured three main tracks: Practice, Innovation, and Programming. Top honors went to 18 teams from nine countries, including Algeria, Brazil, China, Morocco, Nigeria, Philippines, Serbia, Singapore, and Tanzania.
Several special awards recognized contributions beyond technical skills:
- Women in Tech Award: Four all-female teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya.
- Green Development Award: Awarded to a team from Ghana.
- Most Valuable Instructor Award: Eighteen instructors from ten countries, such as Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, and Türkiye.
Driving Skills for an Intelligent Future
Ritchie Peng, Director of ICT Strategy & Business Development at Huawei, emphasized the competition’s role in fostering learning and innovation. The Practice track focuses on cloud computing, big data, and AI, supporting the vision for an Intelligent World 2030. The Innovation track encourages solutions addressing green development and digital inclusion, tackling challenges in agriculture, healthcare, and education.
With digital transformation accelerating worldwide, the need for professionals skilled in AI, big data, and cybersecurity is urgent. The Huawei ICT Competition supports this by combining competition with industry-academia collaboration and curriculum development, helping students gain practical skills that meet market demands.
AI and Education: A New Chapter
This year, Huawei also hosted the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, where experts discussed AI’s role in smart education.
