IIT Madras Launches Free AI Course for School Teachers

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has introduced a new online course titled AI for Educators aimed at school teachers. This initiative provides practical knowledge on artificial intelligence (AI) and equips educators with tools to improve teaching methods, assessments, and student engagement.

The course is offered through the Swayam Plus platform, running fully online in collaboration with the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. It is part of a broader effort to integrate AI learning into education at the school level.

Course Offerings and Details

Alongside AI for Educators, the Pravartak Technologies Foundation offers five additional free courses:

• AI in Physics
• AI in Chemistry
• AI in Accounting
• Cricket Analytics with AI
• AI/ML using Python

The courses range from 25 to 45 hours in duration. While access to the courses is free, participants seeking certification can pay a nominal fee for proctored exams held at designated centers.

Who Should Enroll?

No prior AI or coding experience is required. The only prerequisites are basic digital literacy and a willingness to learn. According to IIT Madras officials, the courses have been carefully developed by experts within the IIT Madras ecosystem, combining academic rigor with industry relevance.

The curriculum follows the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and focuses on employability. It features hands-on activities, real-world datasets, and case study-based learning to ensure practical understanding.
