Imo journalists to train on AI ethics in sports reporting
Sports journalists in Imo State will attend a training session on using artificial intelligence responsibly in newsrooms. The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo Chapter, is hosting the workshop on May 12, 2026, at OtownGist Media and Creative Hub in Owerri.
The session, titled "Ethics & Professionalism in the Generative AI Era," will cover practical applications of AI tools for sports reporting. Participants will learn how to use these tools for faster transcription, match reports, interview processing, and content distribution.
Chinedu Hardy Nwadike, founder of OtownGist Media and Creative Hub, will lead the training. He will demonstrate how AI fits into real-time newsroom operations.
What the training covers
- Using generative AI and large language models for content creation
- Maintaining accuracy and originality when using AI tools
- Fact verification and editorial integrity standards
- Responsible AI use in sports journalism
- Live demonstrations of newsroom workflows
The emphasis will remain on credibility. Journalists will learn how to use AI to work faster without compromising the verification and editorial standards that define professional reporting.
For writers and journalists looking to understand how AI fits into their work, this training addresses the practical questions: what these tools can do, where they add value, and what standards must remain unchanged.
