India Launches AI Training for Media and Creative Professionals
India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting launched a national AI skilling programme on March 23 in partnership with Google and YouTube. The initiative will train 15,000 people across animation, VFX, gaming, comics, and media technology through the end of 2026.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the programme to help creators and professionals adapt to AI tools reshaping the content industry. The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies will deliver the training, with 15,000 scholarships available to participants.
Two-phase structure
The first phase runs from March 23 to June 30, 2026. Participants complete foundational courses in AI Essentials and Generative Video through Google's platform. Finishing this phase is required to advance.
The second phase, July through December 2026, focuses on hands-on training for the creative industry. Participants learn storytelling, platform best practices, and tools including Gemini, Veo, and Vertex AI.
Who can apply
The programme targets content creators, media professionals, students, and developers. For those working in AI for Creatives, the training covers practical applications in production workflows.
Broader strategy
The government aims to build a workforce ready for AI-driven content creation and position India as a hub for digital content production. The initiative also supports India's "Orange Economy" - the creative and cultural industries sector.
The government separately launched MyWAVES, a creator platform on the WAVES OTT service, adding advanced programme guides and satellite tuners to DD Free Dish services.
