Indonesia Promotes Positive Engagement with Artificial Intelligence
Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is urging the public to focus on the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) instead of only its risks. The ministry highlights that while AI introduces new vulnerabilities, it also offers innovative solutions to manage those challenges.
During the HerTech AI training program for women held in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Donny Budhi Utoyo, a ministry official, emphasized the importance of balancing awareness of AI’s risks with its potential advantages. He warned that ignoring AI’s benefits could result in falling behind in information access as technology continues to develop.
Boosting Digital Literacy to Mitigate AI Risks
Utoyo stressed the need to improve digital literacy through targeted training and initiatives. This approach helps users avoid falling victim to AI’s negative effects while enabling them to take full advantage of its capabilities. He pointed out that AI training must keep pace with technological progress to help citizens remain competitive in the job market.
The ministry is currently finalizing a roadmap for AI development. This plan, created in collaboration with relevant agencies and the public, prioritizes inclusive access to AI benefits to ensure no one is left behind.
Inclusive AI Training for Vulnerable Groups
Digital literacy gaps, especially among women, remain a concern. Utoyo highlighted the ministry’s focus on AI training for women to address this disparity. He further noted the importance of including other vulnerable groups such as marginalized communities, people with disabilities, and indigenous populations.
"No one should be left behind," Utoyo emphasized, underscoring the commitment to equitable AI education and access.
